Gowen Thunder 2017
This past weekend I traveled to Boise in order to participate in the Gowen Thunder Airshow put on by our Idaho Army and Air National Guard. It’s the first airshow that has been hosted here in over two decades (21 years) and was presented as a means for the Guard to say thank you to a community that supports them, and their ongoing mission in support of Idaho and US interests abroad.
This trip to the capital of Idaho gave me an opportunity to walk the streets of Boise, talk to the people living there, and ultimately spend time at the State Capitol Building in downtown, reflecting on the work our government has done for Idaho in the past, today and what we will achieve in the future.
Idaho has always been a State rich in patriotism, her people unwavering in their commitment to Liberty, Freedom and the Constitution. This weekend Gowen Thunder gave the people of Boise and Idaho an opportunity to see the men and women of the Army and Air Guard in action, demonstrating their professionalism and skills in spectacular fashion. As I watched the interaction of people with the soldiers and airmen present at the Air Show I saw a theme emerging, respect.
The people of Idaho clearly respect and love their military. I believe that respect has more than been earned by each man and woman who puts on the uniform and takes the same oath of service I myself once took. Our military, and our veterans, are some of our most valuable resources in both times of crisis and times of peace. We must take every step to ensure that these heroes are given the tools, training, and resources they need to achieve their mission objectives while they are serving. Once they leave the service and rejoin our ranks as civilians, it is imperative that we do everything in our power to make sure that they have the resources and care they need to thrive and grow with their families after their service has ended.
As a Veteran of the War against Terror, with service in Iraq, Veterans Affairs are very important to me and will be a central focus once elected. I will ensure that the benefits for service members, such as VA healthcare, are not only safeguarded from runaway liberals and Democrats that don’t value service the way we do – but are expanded and reformed in a way that will modernize the care provided and elevate it to enviable standards. Our Veterans must come first!
