The 2nd Amendment
Shall Not Be Infringed
Shall not be infringed, in any way, by any man, woman, or governing body. Period. It is my solemn oath to be a torch-bearer in Washington DC and guardian of the gun rights of all Americans. I plan on working with 2A allies in Washington DC to introduce bills that would create 50 state Concealed Carry permit reciprocity, protect the rights of gun owners to purchase firearms and ammunition without limits, roll back harmful and dangerous “gun free” zone rules, and more. It is my intention to ensure that gun-grabbers lose ground every day I’m in office. Our right to bear arms is enshrined in the constitution, and I will fight any agency or member of government that attempts to take that right away, or stifle it through legislation.
Keep More of Your Hard Earned Money
I believe in sweeping, broad, tax reform at the Federal and State levels. We need to do away with, completely, the overly-complex and loop-hole filled Federal Tax Code and replace it with a common sense, one-page, policy. By eliminating Federal tax brackets and moving the US toward a simplified tax we allow all Idahoans to keep more of their hard earned money, and in turn – spend that money here, in Idaho, at businesses owned by Idaho families. Gone will be the mountains of forms, the complex deductions, the loopholes. You’ll be able to do your taxes during a lunch break, or over a single cup of coffee.
Reducing the Federal tax code gets the Feds out of the way of Idaho, and will allow our legislators here to look at ways of better using those savings in programs to make Idaho great, such as expanding our education programs and allotments. Federal tax reform is central to my campaign, by reducing our total federal obligation Idaho will have access to more funds to focus on developing and growing as a state. I will also work with local legislators in Idaho to repeal the taxes that hurt, not help, the Idaho families such as the grocery tax, and continue to make Idaho a better, and more attractive place to live.
A Great Future Demands A Great Education System
Idaho has been under-performing for far too long. We have only career politicians, who campaign on empty promises, to blame for not fixing this problem. Idaho scored a D+ in 2017 according to Education Week assessments, keeping its position as 4th to last in the entire United States from 2016; two years ago in 2015 we had an F. I will work at the Federal level to bring education funding into the State of Idaho, and with our local legislators, Governor, and Mayors to ramp up Education quality in Idaho. The best way to go about doing that is to get the government out of the way. Graduation rates have fallen steadily over the past 4 decades; and though well-meaning, programs such as No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top have failed to produce the results we as Americans should demand out of our education system.
Education can no longer be our lowest priority – it needs to be one of our highest. We should not be looking for programs to cut, but at how we can bring more programs in and shape education in America into a system envied around the world. The education that Idahoans receive will determine the future of this state. We need to make Idaho an attractive, and powerful player in the field of education.
Active Forestry Management
We must take control of our lands BACK from the Feds
Once elected I intend to work tirelessly to lift regulations that are preventing Idaho from harvesting timber and actively managing our lands to prevent wildfires. Every year Idaho either leads, or nearly leads, the nation in acres of land burnt. In the 90’s a “bad year” would see 1 million acres of land lost to wild fires, today that number, our average, is nearly 7 million acres a year. Not only are our beautiful forests threatened, but so are our homes, communities, and our health. Early September of 2017 saw North Idaho with the worst air quality in the entire United States. Passive management, or “benign neglect” as the University of Idaho puts it, can no longer be the rule of the land.
Once elected I will introduce and support any bill that opens up, directs, and encourages active forestry management programs that will reduce fuel sources, and take us from being reactive to proactive in wildfire situations. I say not one more house, not one more life, not one more fire. Our forests are what make Idaho beautiful, and allowing them to be decimated in every fire that comes to our state is irresponsible, and shameful. There are some people, who we would associate with organizations like The Sierra Club, or Greenpeace perhaps, who have stated “I’d rather see an entire forest burn, than see a single stump.” To them I say – Get out of the Way.
I’d rather see a forest, than to see the smoldering remains of one. Allowing lumber companies to selectively harvest our timber, under the guidance of skilled managers will reduce the occurrences of wildfires and protect our homes, communities, and health.
Idaho is not a sanctuary state, our cities are not sanctuary cities, and our communities are at risk from illegal immigration – so we can not afford to ever be. We can never allow for sanctuary policies to thrive in our state, and at a Federal level we must oppose them for the entire United States. I promise to stand firm on Immigration reform and work with the rest of Congress and the President on creating a system that allows legal, vetted, immigrants into the United States, while penalizing and deporting criminals that have crossed into our nation illegally; I will also stand for blocking the dangerous flow of refugees from radicalized Islamic countries – America’s safety must always come first, above all others.
As an agricultural state I recognize the importance of having a comprehensive and successful migrant-worker program, and right now policy in Washington DC is being written by people who don’t get that. When it comes to migrant workers we need to know who they are, where they are, what they are doing – and what there exit timeline is. We will be a state and nation that welcomes qualified legal immigrants, while keeping the illegals out, and deporting those that are already here.
The President has spoken of a merit based immigration system, one that gives doctors, engineers, scientists, and their families priority for immigration to the United States. I support this model, and will work to put it into place. We need more professionals immigrating to the USA; their skills and academic backgrounds will bolster American Exceptionalism. We need innovators and creators, healers, and engineers.
Further, on the subject of refugees, no refugees from radicalized parts of the world should be admitted to the United States, and certainly should not be forcibly settled in Idaho where they are then free to radicalize within our state. Until a proven vetting system is in place I will stand firm on blocking refugee resettlement in Idaho and the United States. It is in the American best interest to project US Military might, and diplomatic influence into regions of conflict and help these displaced peoples fight for, and take their own countries back – so that they can stay there until they can legally immigrate to the United States if that is what they want to do.
No Higher Honor
Idaho has a large, and growing, population of Veterans and it is our responsibility to ensure that each and every one of them has the care and services that they need post-separation. There is no higher calling than taking up the mantle of freedom and joining our armed forces. During their service these men and women give up so much, sometimes even paying the ultimate price, and for that we as a nation owe them more than we can repay. Idaho’s veterans need a Representative in Congress that understands their service, someone who has served themself. I count myself among Idaho’s veterans, and I spend a great deal of time within the Veteran community.
Our VA problems have not been solved, long wait times, lack of access to care, and a “figure it out yourself” system have left many Veterans out in the cold. I will pick up the reigns on VA reform, to ensure that not only does the VA have the funding it needs to provide better care and services, but also that they have the tools, resources, and people to meet the growing needs of our Veteran community. America’s greatest generation, will always be the generation of warriors in and out of service. Let’s make sure they are taken care of, because they take care of America from day 1.
Our Nations Finest
America is in the middle of a strange and alarming fight, police have been the targets of assassinations, and attacks – which alone is alarming, but the left have seemed to embrace this anti-police aggression and continue to support the domestic terror groups responsible – these are people that have power over the laws of this land, and they must not only be stopped, but removed from ever office of power they hold now. Idaho needs to send a strong leader to Washington DC that will lead this effort, ratify and rally support for our first responders, police officers, health care workers, and those that have chosen the high calling of public service. Every day in America they put themselves in harms way to make sure that our society remains exceptional, and it has come high time for us to get their back in this fight. Nick Henderson will always stand in solidarity with the men and women who chose this most noble calling.
America must have a strong National Defense program that allows for the resolute and complete defense of our nation, and our allies, against threats posed by adversaries abroad. We must invest heavily in advanced technologies and cyber security and intelligence platforms that will allow us to safeguard our infrastructure from cyber attacks. America is a shining beacon upon a hill – and it is our duty to ensure that beacon is always visible to the world, a golden glow of prosperity. There will always be those that seek to snuff out the light – fortunately there will always be American’s willing to stand the watch. We must make sure that every man and women in our Armed Forces receives the training, equipment, and support they need to do their job.
I’ve worn the boots, I’ve carried the ruck, I’ve done battle with the enemy. I will never falter from my oath, never misplace my loyalty, and I will always have the back of our military. In my eyes the greatest generation isn’t just one generation of Americans. The greatest generation of American’s will always be those of their own Generation that chose to serve in America’s military. They are true heroes, and they deserve a government that works to ensure they can execute the mission and make it home to their families.
